Hemp-derived CBD Questions
Chemically, Hemp oil has high CBD content and acts as a THC antagonist. Hemp oil is another term for CBD oil, both are cannabis plant extracted. Hemp oil coming from Hemp plant (Sativa) which is very different looking than marijuana plant, both belonging to the “Cannabis family”. The misunderstanding is the difference between hemp seed oil (extracted from the seed) and hemp oil (extracted from the flowers and stalks of Industrial Hemp). Hemp oil or CBD oil has low THC (less than 0.3%), and used for various health and wellness purposes.
Full spectrum means you are getting the whole plant that contains more cannabinoids than only CBD and THC; such as CBN, CBL, and CBCVA, as well as aromatic (nice smelling) cannabis terpenes like pinene and limonene. Having access to more than just one cannabinoid can actually enhance CBD through something called the entourage effect. This means that the CBD has been known to work better when accompanied by other cannabinoids.
CBD isolate means its a pure form of CBD compound, that growers “isolate” by itself. It’s coloring is an off white kind of powder, and contains no other active compounds – nothing. In its purest form it has shown in studies to be effective in helping with pain, inflammation, mood, and general health. For your own personal daily CBD remedies, isolates can be mixed in coffee, and other edible preferences (eg.salads dressings, cookies, seasoning)
CBD is legal in most countries if it’s from the cannabis hemp plant and it contains low levels of THC (0.3%). Because there’s so much confusion around hemp and other forms of cannabis, there is still some stigma around hemp-derived CBD and Cannabis CBD. In the United States, CBD (or Cannabidiol) that is hemp-derived is legal in all 50 US states. Because Hemp-derived products are low in THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) (less than 0.3%). It doesn’t hurt to check your local State laws for better clarification.
Sublingual: this method is better than simply swallowing as the CBD is allowed to enter the bloodstream far more quickly via the capillaries under your tongue. Let the drops sit there for around one to two minutes. After two minutes, swallow what’s left of the CBD oil. Repeat this twice a day
Soft gels, Capules or Isolates: is a convenient and easiest way to know exactly how many milligrams of CBD you are taking. It’s also perfect if you don’t like the hemp taste of CBD oil. CBD isolates are great to sprinkle on edibles like salad dressing, coffee, cakes etc.
Inhaling: CBD oil allows you to feel the effect of CBD immediately. This can be done by vaping CBD or using an e-cigarette as the CBD is absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the lungs.
Topicals for Skin: endocannabinoid receptors on our skin cells this means that CBD can go straight to the source, easing any joint or muscle pains and calming irritated or inflamed skin.
CBD is completely non-psychoactive, which means it won’t give you that feeling associated with other strains of cannabis. When CBD is derived from the hemp strain of cannabis, it has less than 0.3% THC, and is considered legal. CBD works directly with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) to bring balance to our body and our mind. In higher doses, CBD can affect people differently and cause drowsiness. If you experience this side effect, do not drive or operate heavy machinery — and simply reduce the dose you’re taking. The proper dosage is based on the concentration or strength of the product, your body weight, desired effects on their ailments and your experiences, and your tolerance level over time.
The endocannabinoid system is a key homeostatic regulator in the body, playing a role in almost every physiological system in the body. For a long period of time it was overlooked as a possible therapeutic target, particularly because there was not much known about disease implications of the system.
The NCBI conducted a review on the ‘Safety and side effects of cannabidiol’. Their verdict? That controlled administration is completely non-toxic and safe in both humans and animals with minimal side effects from CBD hemp oil. It does not affect physiological parameters like heart rate or body temperature.
The World Health Organisation has also recognised CBD as being non-toxic, safe and with little to no side effects. So you can add CBD oils to any dish you like or take it daily as a food supplement without any risk.
CBD stays in your system for two to five days (according to clinical studies performed on patients affected by Huntington’s disease). However, the amount of time for the molecule to completely leave the human body depends on each person – as well as the quantity of CBD taken.
CBD will not make you high. THC will.
The main difference between CBD and THC is the effects they have on you. Put simply, THC gets you ‘high’ while CBD won’t.
This is because CBD does not bind effectively to our endocannabinoid system – the body’s unique system that regulates elements such as sleep, appetite and our immune system. It’s this binding action that gives you that ‘high’ feeling.
Without getting too scientific, CBD and THC may share the same chemical composition, but their atomic arrangements are different.
Both of them are considered cyclic compounds, which means one or more of the atoms in the compounds connect to form a ring. CBD has an open ring, while THC has a closed ring.
Why does this matter? It’s this arrangement that means they interact differently with the endocannabinoid system’s receptors. CBD is abundant in hemp, THC dominates other forms of cannabis
Earlier this year, the US Senate introduced The Hemp Farming Act in its version of The 2018 Farm Bill. Among other things, the act seeks to make hemp an agricultural commodity, give states the power to oversee hemp production, and take away the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) authority over hemp.
The 2018 Farm Bill is currently in conference committee where the two legislative chambers must reconcile a few differences before approval. The bill is expected to be signed into law before the end of the year; and if The Hemp Farming Act survives in its current form, it will be the most important victory in the history of the hemp industry in the United States.

CBD is considered non-toxic and the chemical produces very few side effects which, when they occur, are typically minor and non-threatening. Because cannabinoid receptors, unlike opioid receptors, are not located in the brainstem areas controlling respiration, lethal overdoses from Cannabis and cannabinoids do not occur. Considering zero cases have been reported, over-dosing seems very unlikely. But, not all products or companies are created equal. When looking for a product that may relieve your pain, it is vital to go with a company you can trust.
